The Morgan County Republican Caucuses will be held on Tuesday, February 7th at
7 pm. Precinct 1 will meet at the Wiggins High School Library, Precinct 2 at the
Weldon Valley School, Precincts 3-11 at the Fort Morgan Middle School, and
Precincts 12-17 at the Brush High School. Any Republican can participate in the
Republican Caucus if you have been a registered Republican as of December 7,
2011 and you must have been a resident of your precinct since January 9, 2012. At
the caucus a Presidential Preference Poll will be taken and delegates to the county

Colorado State University Extension will be hosting AgrAbility workshops February 7
at the Extension Office Events Center in Holyoke, and February 8 at the Ft. Morgan
Extension Office. The workshop is for farmers and ranchers and their family
members who want to start or continue farming/ranching in spite of physical

Join Sterling Public Library for a Valentine’s Tea on Friday, February 10th at
2:00 pm. The library staff will host an afternoon tea open to the public. There will be
several flavors of tea and scrumptious treats. Special entertainment is being

The Morgan County Ambulance Service will be hosting a blood drive, in conjunction
with the Community Health Fair, on Saturday, February 11th from 8:30am to 11am at

College Goal Sunday will be held in Sterling at Northeastern Junior College on
Sunday, February 12, from 2 – 4 pm. Families will receive free professional
guidance on ways to pay for college, specifically how to complete the Free
Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), which must be completed for a student
to receive any type of financial aid, including grants, work study, student loans and
even many scholarships. Families are encouraged to bring their 2011 federal tax
records, to ensure they can work through the FAFSA during the time they have with

Men's and Women's "Open" Winter Racquetball League registrations will be taken

The Sterling Department of Parks, Library, and Recreation is currently accepting
team registrations for the Adult Spring Volleyball Program. Men's, Women's, Co-

On Wednesday February 15 the Colorado Department of Corrections Search Team
will be conducting training in and around the City of Sterling. The training will occur

and fundraiser with Julie Pech, "The Chocolate Therapist." There will be a

The Yuma First Church of the Nazarene would like to announce the beginning of a
new ministry, Parent’s Night Out. This is a free babysitting service for all families in
the community. Bring your children (ages 0-11 years) to the church so we can
watch them for you while you have some quality adult time. The church will provide
supper, games, crafts, and Disney movies. The Parent’s Night Out will take place

The Morgan County Lincoln Day Dinner will be held on Presidents Day, Monday,
February 20th at the Country Steak Out in Fort Morgan. Cost is $25 per person. Jon

Sterling High School Parent/Teacher Conferences will be held on Monday, February 27th from 4:30pm to 8:45pm. Teachers will be located in their classrooms. Parents are asked to please limit their conferences to five minutes. Student guides and interpreters will be available to assist parents. Please enter the building through the main entrance.
If you have a household income that is less than $49,000, you qualify for the Tax
Help Colorado program which provides free tax preparation services. In Sterling,
NJC students will be offering free tax preparation services by appointment only on
Tuesday evenings from 5-8 pm thru April 3rd. Those wishing to access this service
on a Tuesday evening must make an appointment by calling 521-6637 between 12
noon and 5 pm Monday through Friday. In addition to the Tuesday night
appointments, this free service will also be available Saturday, February 25th, from
9 am to 2 pm, qualifying clients may show up for the service at this same location.
No appointments are being made the Saturday. Clients will be served in the order
that they arrive. If you plan to access this free tax preparation service, you must bring
the following documentation with you to the tax site: All W-2, 1099s and other
income-related documents; proof of mortgage interest, property taxes, daycare
payments, college education expenses, charitable contributions and all other tax
deductible expenses; social security cards for all family members; a copy of last
year’s tax return, if available; bank account number and routing number to direct
deposit your refund. With direct deposits, refunds are received in 7–10 days. If a
joint return is being filed, both parties must be present.
The Colorado County Clerks Association has established a scholarship fund to aid
outstanding seniors who are residents of Colorado in furthering their education at
any university, college, junior college, or technical institution. Selection will be based
upon a 3.25 Minimum GPA, community involvement with an interest in government,
business, political science, and financial need/hardship. The Colorado County
Clerks Association will grant regional one-time awards in the amount of $500 to
seniors graduating from Colorado High Schools. Applications must be turned in to
the Logan County Clerk & Recorder's office no later than March 1, 2012. For those

the Logan County Courthouse) for an application packet.
The cosmetology center at Northeastern Junior College will be open on some
select Saturdays during spring semester to offer its services to the public. The
2012 Saturday dates are Saturday, March 3rd and Saturday, April 28th. Students
are available for appointments from 9am-3:30 pm. Space is limited on these
special Saturday dates, so make your appointments by calling 521-6733. Services
are also provided on week days from 9am-3:30 pm on a walk-in basis and by
appointment. Any hair services requiring the use of chemicals (coloring, perms)
must be scheduled in the morning. To make an appointment for a week day service,

Avenue and Landrum Lane on the northwest corner of the main campus.

The City of Sterling is taking reservations for 2012 use of the park pavilions.
Pavilions may be reserved from 8am-3pm, 5-11pm, or the entire day. Interested
individuals or organizations are asked to complete a written application, which is
available at the Department of Parks, Library, and Recreation, upstairs in City Hall,
421 North 4th Street in Sterling. Applications must be received no later than 5pm

there is an opening for 3 additional memorial benches to be placed in Columbine
Park. The benches cost $1650, and a plaque will be attached to each bench with

Sterling Public Library is looking for volunteers to help us shelve the many items
used by our library patrons. The library will work with you to find a time that works
well for you and meets our needs. Shelving is an important task at the library
allowing others to find the materials they are wanting. If you are interested in helping
shelve at the library, please stop by and pick up a volunteer application. A training
on shelving will be scheduled for all those interested in volunteering.
